NEW OXFORD — Residents are returning home after a gas leak prompted an evacuation order for parts of one central Pennsylvania community.

Columbia Gas says the leak at its regulator station was shut off around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Officials say the leak was caused when the driver of a truck backed up and hit a pipe.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency ordered the evacuation of residents within a half-mile of the reported leak in Hamilton Township in Adams County. A temporary shelter was set up at a nearby fire station.

Utility crews restored electrical service to the homes and repairs to the damaged facility continue.

No injuries have been reported.
