Police: Woman dead following Route 15 crash
A woman died from a two-vehicle crash on Route 15 in Franklin Township Friday morning, according to Northern York County Regional Police.
Police responded to the scene at Hickory Road before 6 a.m., according to a police news release, and the York County Coroner's Office was called to the crash about 7:30 a.m., according to its Twitter feed.
The identity of the woman will be released pending notification of family members, according to the release.
Initial investigation shows that the woman, who was driving, was stopped at a stop sign facing west on Hickory Road and preparing to turn left onto Route 15 north, the release states.
When she pulled out into southbound Route 15 traffic, a tractor trailer struck her vehicle, according to the report. The trailer was hauling wine, which spilled as a result of the crash.
The multi-vehicle accident still has all lanes closed in both directions as of 11 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation, and will remain closed until Hazmat and reconstruction crews can complete their work.
Police estimate the road will reopen around noon.
Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly attributed Coroner Pam Gay as identifying a mother and daughter dead from this crash. Gay had been referring to a Thursday night crash in Washington Township.
