NWS issues heat advisory in York Tuesday afternoon

A heat advisory is in effect Tuesday from noon to 7 p.m. in York County, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a chance for heavy rainfall and storms after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, which has a high near 93, but a heat index that could reach up to 104.

The NWS warned that the high temperatures brings an increased risk of heat-related illness with prolonged outdoor exposure or strenuous activity.

The service advises residents to limit or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities, find shade, stay hydrated, check on the elderly, sick and those without air conditioning, and never leave kids or pets in unattended vehicles.

The NWS also issues a hazardous weather outlook Tuesday afternoon in the county as scattered severe thunderstorms and winds up to and exceeding 60 mph potentially leading to localized flooding.
