Lancaster man charged with kicking, punching horse

An Ephrata man has been charged with two counts of cruelty for unreasonably striking a horse that was “overburdened with a heavy load" on a hot day Tuesday, police said.

The horse, which was pulling a wagon loaded with watermelons, was euthanized a short time later after being struck by Marvin M. Sensenig, 20, of the 300 block of Akron Road, Ephrata police said.

On Tuesday, police responded to Bethany Road near Brossman Road shortly before noon after a caller reported a horse down in the road. When police arrived, a passerby complained that the horse had been mistreated, police said.
