Shrewsbury Twp. barn fire keeps crews up all night
An early-morning barn fire in Shrewsbury Township kept firefighters from several area companies working past sunrise Monday.
No injuries were reported.
York County 911 dispatched the first units — from Stewartstown, Shrewsbury and New Freedom — at 1:35 a.m. to a report of a barn fire at 1648 Stewartstown Road in Shrewsbury Township.
Mutual aid calls then went out to Glen Rock, Dallastown and North Hopewell. Later calls for additional manpower and support went out to Felton, Fawn Grove and Red Lion.
Rose Fire Co. No. 1 out of New Freedom had command at the scene.
Rose Fire Co. firefighter Tim Kemp said at 10 a.m. his department was still busy cleaning up and he could not provide any additional details regarding the fire. By that point, more than nine hours had passed since his company had been sent out to try to contain the blaze.
"Some very tired guys," Kemp said.
Maryland Line Volunteer Fire Co. said via its Facebook page that no people or animals were injured in the fire. Early reports estimate the damage to the barn at $50,000.
