  • The Newberry Township Fire Department was dispatched to the 900 block of Whisler Road for a house fire Thursday.
  • Two people were displaced and one resident was hospitalized as a result of the fire, an official says.

A Newberry Township house fire caused one resident to be sent to the hospital Thursday morning, according to fire officials.

Newberry Assistant Fire Chief Don Young said his department was dispatched to the 900 block of Whisler Road just after midnight.

Young said the fire was "heavily involved" when crews arrived at the scene, and he praised the aid his department received from numerous nearby departments, including Dover Borough, Dover Township, Goldsboro, York Haven, Strinestown and Wellsville.

The condition of the injured resident, who was one of two displaced by the fire, was unknown as of 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Young said.

Young did not have a damage estimate but said the house sustained "heavy damage."

Officials have yet to determine where the fire started or what caused it, but fire marshals are investigating, he added.
