Severe thunderstorm warning issued in York


The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for York County until 9:15 a.m.

A severe thunderstorm was spotted over Plainfield about 7:20 a.m. moving southeast at 40 mph, according to the NWS warning.

Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building, as the storm is expected to bring 60 mph winds and quarter-sized hail.

Hail damage to vehicles is expected along with wind damage to roofing, siding and trees.

Locations expected to be impacted include Weigelstown, York City, Yorklyn, East Berlin, Dover, Shiloh, Spring Grove, Dillsburg, North York, West York and East York. Instate 83 between mile markers 14 and 27 is also included.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon in York County, according to the National Weather Service, which issues a hazardous weather outlook.

The storms may include gusty winds and brief downpours, according to the outlook.

Tuesday is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 87 and low around 62, according to NWS.

Thunderstorms are also possible Wednesday night and likely Thursday morning.
