Hellam Twp. man charged with child sex assault
A Hellam Township man is charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, indecent assault on a person less than 13 years old, indecent exposure and corruption of minors after a complaint filed earlier this year stated he engaged in acts with a 7-year-old girl.
According to court documents, Douglas Shanahan, 40, of 60 E. Beaver St. was arrested May 17 and placed in York County Prison under a $250,000 secured bond.
Charging documents filed by the Hellam Township Police Department allege a 7-year-old girl known to Shanahan revealed during a January 2016 interview with the York County Children's Advocacy Center that in February 2015, Shanahan asked her to lick his exposed penis.
The victim told investigators that she and Shanahan had slept in the same bed the night before, she with her clothes on and him naked. She said she woke up to find Shanahan with his privates touching her privates. He later made the alleged request while standing naked in the bedroom, to which the victim responded, "No way, Jose."
The documents also state Shanahan rubbed some sort of cream on the victim's genitals because her private area was hurt. She told investigators she did not understand why Shanahan and not her mother would have been the one to do this. She said he should not have seen her private parts at any time, the documents said.
Shanahan remains in prison. His initially scheduled preliminary hearing in Magisterial District Court has been continued twice since his arrest and is now slated to take place at 11 a.m. June 30 before Judge Robert A. Eckenrode in Manchester.
