The state Department of Environmental Protection issued a second consecutive Code Orange air quality alert in York County for Friday.

The alert, which was also issued on Thursday, means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly.

The department recommends these groups avoid strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.

Thursday will be partly sunny with a high near 89 and a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. with a low around 67, according to the National Weather Service.
