Interstate 83 northbound has reopened between Exit 28 at Strinestown and Exit 32 at Newberrytown after being closed multiple hours due to a multi-vehicle accident Friday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The pile-up, which had all northbound lanes closed, was called in just before 6:40 a.m. At one point, traffic was backed up 9 miles, or about a mile north of the George Street exit.
There were a still residual delays on side roads near I-83.
Michael Martin, PennDOT's York County maintenance manager, said traffic was being detoured off at Strinestown with the queue getting by to the left of the incident. Traffic will remain backed up "for a while," he said, around 8:30 a.m.
