Hellam Twp. supervisor named to statewide post
York County will be represented in a statewide group after Hellam Township Supervisor Galen Weibley was appointed to a Pennsylvania State Associations of Township Supervisors committee recently.
Weibley, who was named chairman of the Hellam Township Board of Supervisors last month, was appointed to the Townships With Populations Greater Than 5,000 But Less Than 10,000 Committee, according to a news release from the association.
The committee works to identify common problems unique to medium-sized townships, the release said.
"This committee proposes solutions to state and federal legislation and currently has (nine) seats," Weibley wrote in an email.
He will serve a three-year term on the committee.
Having someone from York County on the committee will not only give the township a voice, but also other townships in the county a voice, Weibley said.
The nearest committee member last year lived in Adams County, he noted.
Hellam Township has an estimated population of about 6,000, according to U.S. Census data.
