Republican state Rep. Kate Klunk will host next month a tea for couples married who have been married for 50 years or more.

The Senior Sweetheart Tea will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Hanover YWCA, 23 W. Chestnut St., according to a news release from Klunk's office.

"We're doing this to thank them," Klunk said in a phone interview, adding it's also a way to help get seniors of their homes to mingle with others. "Seniors really need to get out and stay active."

Klunk, who is getting married in May, said she will likely get some tips to a long, fruitful marriage.

Who's invited: Couples who live in the 169th House District, which includes a large swath of southern York County that extends from Hanover to the New Freedom area, and have been married for at least 50 years are invited to attend. The event is free to attend.

Each couple who attends will be given a certificate from Klunk.

Couples who reached the 50-year mark in their marriage typically receive a citation from the House of Representatives to honor the occasion. But Klunk opted to hold the tea this year instead, the release says.

Tea, coffee and breakfast type food items, such as pastries, will be on offer, Klunk said.

Those who are interested in attending the Senior Sweetheart Tea must RSVP with Klunk’s district office by calling (717) 630-8942 no later than Friday, Feb. 12.
