This is one of two full-volume tests performed each year, according to the release. Three Mile Island's siren system consists of 96 sirens located in parts of Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties within a 10-mile radius of the station.

The sirens are typically meant to alert residents to tune to an Emergency Alert Broadcast Station for more information, but that system will not be activated during the test.
