One lane open past I-83 southbound wreck

STAFF REPORT
  • UPDATE: Police are re-opening the left lane, according to 911 radio transmissions.

Southbound traffic is moving again on Interstate 83, although there is a lane restriction, after a wreck shut the lanes Wednesday morning.

.The multi-vehicle accident closed Interstate 83 southbound in Springfield Township, according to state Department of Transportation spokesman Greg Penny.

The crash involving a tractor-trailer and passenger car occurred around 8:50 a.m. about 1.5 miles north of Exit 8 to Glen Rock, Penny said, and both lanes were closed.

Vehicles between Exit 10 and the crash were stuck because the crash left oil and gas on the roadway, making it dangerous to direct traffic onto the shoulder, Penny said, adding PennDOT officials had to wait for a sand truck to come.

Southbound Interstate 83 traffic was stopped Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, because of this jackknifed tractor-trailer about two miles north of the Glen Rock exit. (Bill Kalina - bkalina@yorkdispatch.com)

At one point, traffic was backed up to Exit 14, according to the department's website.
