Anyone looking for the holiday spirit - or Christmas decorating ideas - will have the opportunity to visit several Stewartstown homes in early December.

Regina Nizer, a member of the home tour committee, said this year's event features three historical homes and three modern homes. The Mason-Dixon Public Library and Stewartstown Historical Society will hold the annual “Holiday Home tour” from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, featuring six homes and the sanctuary of Fawn United Methodist Church.

She said in years past there was a focus on only historical homes, but “we found that people do enjoy seeing some of the modern homes.”

The tour is self-guided, and those who attend will be given a map and a brochure and visit each home on their own.

Each home will also offer its own guide.

Collections of nativities and windmills are among the featured items along the tour, which Nizer said is popular.

“We have probably sold somewhere between 200 and 250 tickets for the event,” she said.

Choosing homes:
Nizer said the selection committee is made up of people who were born and raised in Stewartstown, and they know a lot of homes in the area.

They reach out to homeowners, narrowing the pool to between five and six houses for the tour.

Nizer said each year the tour brings in about $3,000, which is split between the historical society and the Mason Dixon Library.

The tour will also include unofficial stops at local businesses for people who wish to spend the whole day in Stewartstown.

“It’s a really fun event and of course we pray for good weather,” she said.

Tickets cost $15, or $20 on the day of the tour. An optional light luncheon for $5 will be served at the Fawn United Methodist Church, with all proceeds going to the church.
