PinnacleHealth finalizes UPMC, Hanover Hospital affiliations

PinnacleHealth System officially became UPMC Pinnacle on Friday, Sept. 1, and UPMC Pinnacle promptly finalized its affiliation with the parent company of Hanover Hospital the same day, according to separate news releases.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the state's largest health system, had announced its deal to acquire PinnacleHealth in mid-August, according to The Associated Press.

In July, PinnacleHealth finalized its acquisition of four area hospitals, including Memorial Hospital — now PinnacleHealth Memorial Hospital — in Spring Garden Township, and it signed an affiliation agreement with Hanover Healthcare Plus, the parent company of Hanover Hospital.

PinnacleHealth landed with UPMC after its merger with Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center was blocked over concern that it would allow prices to rise in the midstate, according to the AP.
