HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf is seeking a joint session of the General Assembly to address the state’s opioid and heroin crisis, just as lawmakers are returning to Harrisburg consider a host of related bills before the November election.

The Democratic chief executive on Friday sent a letter to legislative leaders asking for the session.

He says a joint session is will be more efficient than a special session, which he had previously considered.

The Wolf administration says that, on average, 10 people a day are dying of overdoses in Pennsylvania.

The next step is for the Legislature to respond to Wolf’s letter.

The House returns to session on Monday after a summer break from the Capitol of more than two months. The Senate comes back a week later.
