WellSpan Surgery and Rehab recognized for electronic health record integration
WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital announced Tuesday it has received the highest recognition for health care information and management systems from HIMSS Analytics.
The hospital received a Stage 7 Award for its use of electronic health records and the integration of records to improve patient safety, experience and outcomes.
Only 4.1 percent of hospitals in the country receive this level of recognition, said Brett Marcy, senior director of public relations and communications for WellSpan.
“WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital is one of only four hospitals in Pennsylvania to achieve the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award,” he said.
Reading Hospital, Lancaster General Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC are the only other hospitals to receive this award, according to the HIMSS Analytics website.
“WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital is an exceptional facility that was built around leveraging the electronic medical record, and it is deserving of the recognition it has achieved,” Dr. R. Hal Baker, senior vice president for clinical improvement and chief information officer for WellSpan Health, stated in a Tuesday new release. “We appreciate the reviewers’ particular recognition of WellSpan’s exceptional integration of biomedical devices and the electronic medical records.”
Barbara A. Yarrish, senior vice president for post-acute services for WellSpan and president of WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital, said the greatest achievement is getting the hospital records integrated with other technologies.
“For us, any time we try to achieve a goal, we do it on behalf of our patients, to help patients,” Yarrish stated in the release.
HIMSS Analytics looks at health IT data related to products, costs and trends and analyzes it to give the best information to healthcare companies, governmental entities and consulting companies.
