Spring Grove Area educator is a finalist for Teacher of Year

Out of three York County semifinalists, Spring Grove Area High School physics teacher Brian Hastings was the only local educator to move forward in the running for the state's highest teaching accolade.

Spring Grove Area High School physics teacher Brian Hastings is a semi finalist to be named PA Teacher of the Year, Thursday, March 15, 2018.

He now joins about a dozen other teachers around the state still in contention for the 2019 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year Award.

"I was honored to be nominated for the award and am very humbled to be selected as a finalist," Hastings said.

A 21-year educator in the district, Hastings is an adviser to the acclaimed Spring Grove High School Rocketry team and was instrumental in the development of the high school's AP Physics program.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education will announce the 2019 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year at an awards ceremony in December.
