Hundreds of students from 15 York County school districts will come together to celebrate performing arts at their schools as part of the Encore high school musical theater showcase later this month.

The annual ceremony will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Central York High School, Encore organizers have announced.

Students in all parts of production — actors, dancers, musicians and backstage workers — will participate in the event, which will have schools perform musical numbers from their respective high school plays live on stage.

Viewers can expect many fairy tale-inspired musical numbers at this year’s Encore.

In the current performing season, several high school productions focused on Disney classics, including "Beauty and the Beast" (Dover Area and Central York), "Cinderella" (Eastern York and West York Area) and "The Little Mermaid" (Kennard-Dale).

Students also compete in eight award categories, ranging from individual performances to creativity level to best overall performance, along with chances to win scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $2,000, according to a news release.

Bryan Tate, former vice president at the York County Community Foundation, will return as the event’s master of ceremonies.

If you go: More than 500 York County students will converge at the Central York High School auditorium on Sunday, April 22. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased through the Encore website at www.yorkencoreawards.com or by calling 1-866-967-8167.
