Spring Grove schools approve full-day kindergarten
Full-day kindergarten is coming to Spring Grove.
The Spring Grove Area school board approved a measure Monday, March 26, for the program, starting with the 2018-19 school year.
Up to this point, the district has offered extended and half-day kindergarten programs.
“A traditional full-day program had been continuously examined, and additional study and exploration intensified over the past few months,” said district Superintendent David Renaut.
“Continued research and input from a recent kindergarten registration survey ultimately supported moving ahead with full-day kindergarten for this coming year.”
In a news release, the district outlined several benefits related to full-day kindergarten, including decreased failure and drop-out rates in students later in their academic careers.
It also noted the opportunity for Spring Grove students "to have a level playing field" as more districts implement full-day kindergarten and pre-K programs.
Just last month, West York Area School District approved full-day kindergarten, which alsowill commence at the start of the 2018-19 school year.
