York County Commissioner Doug Hoke donated $125,000 to Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences to create a 4-H leadership award, according to a news release from the college.

The Hoke 4-H Leadership Award Fund will provide educational awards to recognize the achievements of York County 4-H members, with a preference for high school seniors who plan to attend college or technical school, the release states.

Hoke did not grow up on a farm, participate in 4-H or attend Penn State, but he said in the release that he had developed an appreciation for the value of agriculture while attending college in Missouri at Culver-Stockton College.

“I’m looking forward to providing students in 4-H with the possibility of furthering their future and becoming good citizens as well as tomorrow’s leaders of our community,” he said in the release.
