All afternoon and evening activities for Central York School District were canceled for Tuesday, Feb. 20, following threats that police are investigating, according to a post from the district.

The Central York vs. Dallastown playoff basketball game was postponed, the district said. The game has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Central York High School.

Additionally, the Panther Pantry, the district's food pantry, will be rescheduled.

Police had an increased presence Tuesday at Central York High School as officers investigated a possible threat to the school.

Classes proceeded as normal Tuesday, but absences were excused if parents kept their children home because of safety concerns, according to a message on the district's Facebook page.

Additionally, a second post on social media included a threatening statement about the district's middle and elementary schools, according to the district.

Because of the post, there were no outdoor recesses or activities Tuesday, the district said. Information on the second threat will be released once it is available, according to a post on the district's website.

High school threat: Springettsbury Township Police said in a news release that on Monday, Feb. 19, a student heard someone in the hall say "Don't come to school tomorrow," and the student then reported that to the school staff.

Officials at the school notified the police department.

Another student who was not involved but had heard the statement passed the information to others through social media, which gained details "not based in fact," the release said.

School and police officials worked together throughout the day and night and spoke with every person who might have a part in the incident and have not discovered any threat.

Here is the district's complete message on the first threat:

"A MESSAGE FOR CENTRAL YORK HIGH SCHOOL FAMILIES

"Late last night and into this morning, we received numerous reports of a social media post suggesting rumors of a possible threat to Central York High School. Springettsbury Township Police and Northern York Regional Police have been investigating this post and the rumors since last night.

"The police have said they cannot substantiate this threat and cannot verify it as a credible threat at this time. We will proceed with school as normally scheduled.

"We will have additional police presence at our high school today as a proactive measure. If you are concerned for your child’s safety and wish to keep him or her home from school today, that absence will be excused.

"The safety and security of our faculty, staff and students is our utmost concern. If you have concerns or hear rumors, please do not hesitate to notify school officials. We treat all information received seriously and share with law enforcement officials so they may investigate fully.

"Thank you.
