Crucial external audits for Helen Thackston Charter School are complete and ready for approval just hours before they are due to the York City School District under a dissolution agreement, according to the charter school's chief executive.

Board members will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, to approve audits for the 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years that were all in hand at the school as of Tuesday morning, said Thackston Consulting CEO Carlos Lopez.

"Because we’ve met this particular requirement, we expect that we will be able to remain open until June 2019," Lopez said.

Thackston business manager Thomas Taylor will be present to walk board members through the audits and any findings, according to Lopez.

He declined to provide any further information on the audit results ahead of the special meeting.

Once the audits are approved at the Tuesday night meeting, Lopez said he will deliver the documents to district administrators before 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31 — the due date for the audits.

Lopez said he was "very pleased" with administrators and clerical staff for "doing everything they needed to do" in order for auditors to finalize the audits.

Done? Not quite: After approval of the audits Tuesday night, auditors will immediately begin working on the school's audit for the 2016-17 school year, Lopez added.

"It'll be one right after the other," Lopez said.

The school will use the same auditing firm — Conshohocken, Pennsylvania-based St. Clair CPA Solutions — to complete the audit for the past school year.

York City and Thackston boards agreed to dissolve the struggling charter school's operations after the 2018-19 school year last October.

The agreement included requirements for Thackston pertaining to record-keeping, enrollment and the completion of several years of independent audits, including the 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years.

The 2016-17 school year audit is due to York City School District administrators on April 1 and also has a stipulation requiring timely submission to avoid a closure this June, according to the agreement.

With about two months remaining until that audit's due date, administrators will continue the sense of urgency taken for the Jan. 31 deadline, according to Lopez.

"We know that as we move forward, we're going to be more timely in terms of meeting the needs for the district," he said.

The meeting: Thackston's board will hold a special meeting to approve three years of audits at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the charter school campus located at 625 E. Philadelphia St.
