Former Red Lion school building sold at auction

The building that housed Chanceford Elementary School in Red Lion was sold at auction last month after years of being on the market.

The Chanceford Elementary School on Muddy Creek Forks Road will be auctioned off after Red Lion's board approved a resolution Thursday night.

The 31,000-square-foot building, sitting on 8.2 acres located at 33 Muddy Creek Forks Road, was sold for $291,000 on Aug. 16, according to a representative for Hess Auction Group who facilitated the auction.

The 60-year-old property was on the market for years under Rock Commercial Real Estate after its closure in 2010 but never secured a buyer.

The final auction price is well under the $595,000 asking price under Rock, according to an old listing.

Red Lion Area School District Superintendent Scott Deisley said in July that the district could manage a surge in student enrollment at its existing buildings, further demonstrating the reason for the former elementary school building’s sale.
