New teen center opens at YMCA
- A Teen Center and Learning Lounge has opened at the YMCA of York and York County.
- The Teen Center will be open to students in sixth grade and up after school throughout the week.
The YMCA's York branch has opened a Teen Center and Learning Lounge where teens can work on homework, submit college and job applications, and interact with YMCA youth development staff.
The Teen Center and Learning Lounge had its grand opening Jan. 16. Now students in sixth grade and up can go to the YMCA, 90 N. Newberry St., and work in the brand-new computer lab.
According to a news release, the purpose of the center is to give students a safe place to go after school where they can do work and interact with other York County students.
“The opening of the Teen Center and Learning Lounge adds to the great social and youth development programs the YMCA of York and York County already have to offer,” said Youth Development Director Nacole Gaines in the release. “With our brand-new center, we’re giving teenagers the keys to creating their own future by offering a wide range of career and college service tools. This added service is another great reason to become a member at the YMCA.”
There are four YMCA locations in York County, but the center will be located in the York branch.
The Teen Center is open to students from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Interested individuals can make an appointment with the center on Saturdays and Sundays.
