Individual school's Pennsylvania System of School Assessment exam scores were released Sept. 29, and for the second year in a row schools were subjected to the more rigorous Common Core standards that were enacted during the May 2015 tests.

Schools across the county varied on whether their student's scores improved or declined. South Eastern York School District had some mixed results in its scores. Overall, the district saw a slight decrease in students scoring as advanced in English language arts and had more students score as below basic. In math, more students scored as advanced, but more students also scored as below basic in the subject. Averages for the district were found using scores from each school within the district.

The school district did not reply to requests for comment.

In 2016, 20 percent of students in South Eastern York School District scored as advanced on the ELA exam, a slight increase from 18.9 percent in 2015. There were 47.9 percent of students who were considered proficient in the subject this year, down from 52.6 percent in 2015.

More students scored as basic in ELA in 2016, at 26.4 percent, compared with 22.2 percent in 2015. Finally, 5.6 percent of students in the district were considered below basic in 2016, down from 6.3 percent in 2015.

On the math PSSA exam, 21.8 percent of students in the district scored as advanced on the most recent exams, up from 19.3 percent in 2015. However, 26.4 percent of students were considered proficient in the subject in 2016, down quite a bit from 35.8 percent the previous year.

There were 27.8 percent of students who were considered basic in math in 2016, close to the 27.7 percent in 2015. Finally, in 2016, 18.3 percent of students scored below basic on the math exam. This was up slightly from 17.1 percent in 2015.

Fawn Area Elementary School had some of the biggest jumps in the district for scores. In 2016, 29.8 percent of students in the school scored as advanced in ELA, up from 20 percent in 2015. Likewise, only 2.6 percent of students scored below basic, down from 4 percent in 2015.

Scores also jumped in math, from 25 percent of students scoring as advanced in 2015 to 35.7 percent in 2016. Seven percent of students were considered below basic in math in 2016, down drastically from 18.5 percent in 2015. Overall, the school had some of the best scores in the district.
