Author Lindsay Barette George coming to York
- Children's author Lindsay Barrett George will attend the annual Reading Rainbow event.
- The event will be held Saturday at Willman Business Center at York College.
Lindsay Barrett George, a children's author responsible for such books as "Inside Mouse, Outside Mouse" and "Albert Digs," will return as the featured author at the libraries' annual Reading Rainbow event.
Reading Rainbow is hosted each year by York County Libraries as a way to get children excited about books. George was also the featured author for Reading Rainbow in 2006.
George will share stories with the audience at the Saturday event and will be available throughout the day for autographs. Her books will be available for purchase.
ZooAmerica from Hershey will take the stage after George, according to a news release from York County Libraries.
George was born on a Caribbean island and moved to the United States in 1960. It was her lack of English at first that drew her to write and illustrate children's books.
“Since Spanish was my first language, it took a while for me to learn English,” George said in the news release. “The books that I looked at, but couldn’t read, were fairy tales. I loved them because of the pictures. It was then, I think, that I fell in love with picture books. I never imagined that I would be writing and illustrating them as an adult.”
York College Department of Education, the York City School District's Family Literacy Program, the South Central Reading Council and the Northern York County School District are all sponsors of this year's Reading Rainbow event.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Willman Business Center at York College and is free for anyone to attend. Parking and signs will direct attendees to the right building on campus.
