The Bridge Educational Foundation, along with its donors, announced $19,000 in scholarships Friday at an event hosted by Red Lion Christian School.

The scholarships will benefit students at Red Lion Christian School, York Country Day School and York Catholic High School. The Bridge Educational Foundation partners with local businesses to raise funds for Pennsylvania students, according to a news release.

Donors that contributed to the scholarships include M&T Bank, United Healthcare Community Plan and Waste Management. According to the release, the businesses participate in Pennsylvania's Educational Improvement Tax Credit and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit programs

The programs give businesses tax credits for donations made to commonwealth-approved nonprofit scholarship organizations, such as Bridge Educational Foundation. The release states that Bridge has helped more than 14,000 Pennsylvania families through these programs.

Students, parents, donor businesses and Rep. Stan Saylor, R-Windsor Township, were in attendance at the announcement of the scholarships.

“There are many reasons parents choose to enroll their children in schools other than traditional public schools," Saylor said. "The EITC and OSTC programs allow families to choose what is best for their children and ensure students of all backgrounds are afforded the opportunity of a quality education and are not trapped in a failing or underperforming school.”
