South Western looks for school board director
South Western School District recently announced it is looking for a new school board director.
This new search is a result of the resignation of previous board member Ann Dietz. District Superintendent Barbara Rupp said Dietz is resigning for personal reasons.
"She's been a wonderful board member; I'm sad to see her go," Rupp said.
The candidate chosen will hold office until elections in 2017, when Dietz's term would have ended. The individual will then need to run in the public election to continue the term.
Requirements: Interested individuals need to live within the school district, but that is the only requirement.
Rupp explained that the school board will be looking for someone who is interested in kids, who can make all of the meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month and on some Mondays and who will be around for the long haul, like many of the current members. There are people serving on the school board who have done so for decades.
"I have a mix of people who have long-term experience and history and then a group in the middle and then a younger group," Rupp said. "It's a great mix of people. I credit our successes of our district with the tenure of our board members, because they can continually further initiatives."
Residents who are interested can fill out a brief application and will be interviewed by the board on June 27 in public. To get started, call the superintendent's office at 717-632-2500.
