Pennsylvania's top elementary school principal of 2015 is the Spring Grove Area School District's new assistant superintendent.

Mary Beth Grove, who is currently serving as the principal at East York Elementary School in the York Suburban School District, will begin as Spring Grove Area School District's assistant superintendent July 1. Grove will replace the district's current assistant superintendent, David Renaut, who earlier this year was appointed by the board to take on the role of superintendent following Robert Lombardo's retirement.

Mary Beth Grove will start as Spring Grove Area School District's assistant superintendent this summer

Grove received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education from Frostburg State University, a master’s degree in educational administration from Western Maryland College, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Immaculata University. She is in her 27th year of public education and has experience as an elementary classroom teacher, an instructional support teacher and an assistant principal.

Grove has also has expertise in curriculum development, school safety and strategic planning, as well as both planning and implementing data-driven student interventions.

Grove last year was honored as one of the best principals in the country by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. After submitting a series of essays and paperwork, Grove was selected as one of the top four nominees in the state, and ultimately as the best in Pennsylvania. She was named among 2015's National Distinguished Principals and traveled to Washington, D.C., to collaborate with and learn from the other honorees.

Grove and her family reside in the Spring Grove Area School District, and she has one child currently attending school and one that has already graduated.
