A Chanceford Township man was possibly in a "fatigued state" in October 2018 when he hit a car head-on, killing the driver and injuring two passengers, according to police.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, state police filed charges alleging Robert Eugene Yarnell, 69, last year hit Samantha Fawn Rodriguez's car, killing her, in the 1600 block of Delta Road.

Rodriguez, 28, of Brogue, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yarnell, of the 12000 block of Lucky Road, faces charges of homicide by vehicle and aggravated assault by vehicle, which are felonies, and summary traffic offenses.

As of Monday, Oct. 21, Yarnell had not been arraigned on the charges.

Charging documents state Yarnell was driving his Dodge Ram about 8:30 a.m. Oct. 18, 2018, in the southbound lane when he crossed the center line and struck Rodriguez's Mazda CX-5.

A 3-year-old and an infant traveling with Rodriquez were airlifted to Hershey Medical Center for treatment of their serious injuries, according to authorities. One of the children suffered an injured leg, charging documents state.

Yarnell told police he was on his way home from work after an overnight shift and he was driving on roads he was familiar with, court documents state.

Police said Yarnell had no memory of the crash. His only memory was waking up after the crash, according to charging documents.

Rodriguez could not see Yarnell's truck until it was too late to move because of a crest in the roadway, police said.

Yarnell did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
