One shot, another robbed, possibly by same people, York City Police say

York City Police are investigating a shooting and a robbery that they believe could have been committed by the same three people.

The department said in a news release that Sean McNiff, of Dallastown, was shot in the leg near the intersection of Butler and Manor streets about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.

Police said he was approached by three juveniles, one of whom shot him.

Around that same time in the same area, another man, Kyle Leonard, 23, of Elderburg, Maryland, was robbed by three juveniles.

Officer Derek Hartman, the department's spokesman, said the three are possibly teenage boys.

Investigators believe the shooting of McNiff was an attempted robbery, but the three never demanded money from him, nor did they take anything from him, according to Hartman.

Leonard gave the three money when he was robbed Saturday, he said.

McNiff was taken to York Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Saturday. He is expected to survive his injury, Hartman said.

He also said investigators believe Saturday's incidents could be related to a robbery in Spring Garden Township on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Spring Garden Township Police said three high-school-age males approached a 21-year-old man in the 500 block of West Jackson Street about 10:55 p.m. Thursday.

Two of them brandished handguns, and all three forced him to give them his phone and vape pen, according to police.

They then fled east on West Jackson Street. Police said one of the three was wearing a light-colored hoodie.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the robbers' identities is asked to contact township Detective James Hott at or York City Police at 717-846-1234 or text "Yorktips" and your information to 847-411.
