Coroner: 5-year-old boy killed in York City shooting Tuesday

8 p.m. update: A 5-year-old boy succumbed to his wounds after being shot Tuesday afternoon in York City, according to the York County Coroner's Office.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was taken to York Hospital in a private vehicle and was pronounced dead at 2:31 p.m., according to a news release from the coroner's office.

An autopsy will be performed at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, according to the release.

The boy's name and address are being withheld while extended family members are notified of the death, the coroner's office said.

Previous story: A boy died after being shot in York City on Tuesday, according to authorities.

York City Police said officers were called to the 200 block of East Philadelphia Street for a reported shooting about 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Police discovered that the boy had been taken by a family member to York Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The York County Coroner's Office is expected to release more information Tuesday night.

York City Police said the department would be releasing additional information the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 21.
