Police: York City pharmacy robbery might be related to others

York City Police are investigating a pharmacy robbery that might be related to other recent pharmacy robberies in the southcentral Pennsylvania area, according to authorities.

Lt. William Wentz, who supervises the detective bureau, said two men robbed Union Prescription at 100 N. Broad St. shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22.

Wentz said a handgun was displayed during the robbery, and the two men took off with oxycodone pills.

The lieutenant said the FBI is looking into the case because it might be connected to pharmacy robberies in Lancaster and Harrisburg.

Wentz said York City detectives are in contact with Lancaster detectives for the investigation.

The lieutenant said the two men had their hoods drawn tightly and took off in a dark-tinted vehicle in an unknown direction.

Lancaster: Lancaster City Police said in a news release that a man was shot while trying to rob Smithgall's Pharmacy, 536 W. Lemon St., about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24.

The suspect, identified as Brandon Galette, 24, of Harrisburg, was taken to a hospital and was listed in serious condition as of Wednesday, Oct. 24, according to authorities.

The department said a clerk shot Galette multiple times when Galette and another person attempted to rob the pharmacy.

The second suspect, dressed in all black, fled the scene, officials said. Galette faces charges of robbery, theft, aggravated assault and firearms charges, among others.

The department said they were still trying to determine the second suspect's identity.

In their Wednesday release, Lancaster City Police said they were in contact with York City Police and Harrisburg Police to explore potential connections between the recent robberies.

Harrisburg: Authorities in Harrisburg are investigating two robberies from earlier in the month.

According to news releases from Harrisburg Police, three men robbed the See Right Pharmacy at 2647 N. Sixth St. about 3 p.m. Oct. 17.

One of the men jumped over the counter and demanded oxycodone while holding a handgun, police said. He was given a container with pill bottles and fled from the scene, according to the release.

The two others ran to the north side of the store, told an employee to put down the phone and then fled, officials said.

About an hour and a half earlier, three men attempted to rob the Uptown Discount Pharmacy at 2336 N. Third St., according to police.

Police said in the news release that one pointed a gun through the sliding security window.

In both robberies all three were wearing dark clothes, the release states. Their faces were covered in both robberies as well.

The news release does not state what, if anything, was taken in the Uptown Discount Pharmacy robbery.
