A Carroll Township man must spend a month in prison for secretly — and repeatedly — video-recording a woman in his home, including in his bathroom.

Wray A. Bassett admitted to the woman that he was trying to "grab a peek" after she found a camera hidden in his bathroom, Carroll Township Police have said.

She was his longtime platonic friend, defense attorney David Mueller confirmed.

Bassett, 51, of the first block of Old Mill Road, appeared in York County Court on Tuesday, Oct. 2, and was sentenced to one to 23 months in York County Prison, according to court records.

Common Pleas Judge Gregory M. Snyder also ordered Bassett to spend six months on house arrest after being released from prison and to complete sexual-offender treatment, records state.

"He has expressed deep contrition for what he did," Mueller told The York Dispatch. "This is a mistake, and he's atoned for it."

One of the ways in which Bassett took responsibility for his actions was by seeking treatment for the issues that caused him to secretly record the woman, according to Mueller.

Guilty plea: Bassett pleaded guilty June 12 in York County Court to 48 counts of invasion of privacy. A count of child pornography was previously withdrawn by prosecutors.

Mueller said the pornography count had been for photos of young adults found on Bassett's computer, which police had alleged were underage girls. The attorney said there was no proof that the people in the photos were underage.

The woman he secretly videotaped was using Bassett's bathroom June 12, 2017, when she spotted glass in a washcloth on the floor, police have said.

She lifted the washcloth and found a GoPro camera, which she carried to the kitchen on her way to Bassett, according to police. She asked him if he was taping her in the bathroom.

"Oh my God, yes, I am such an a—hole," he replied, according to court documents.

Trust 'ruined': Bassett tried to get her to stay so he could talk to her, but she left and drove to the Carroll Township police station.

He sent the woman texts as she drove to the station, including "I have never felt this bad in my life and I can only imagine you are feeling 1,000% worse and that is killing me," court documents state.

Bassett also texted, "I realize I ruined trust in me and I am a fool. I have no excuse except my lousy (and Lonely) life. It was not fair to try and grab a peek," according to police.

Police who examined Bassett's computer later found 48 videos of the woman, documents state.

Carroll Township Police filed charges in January.
