House arrest ordered in Shrewsbury child rape
A Stewartstown-area resident who sexually abused a girl over a three-year period in a Shrewsbury home must spend years on house arrest.
Domanyc Hall, formerly known as Mary Hall, was sentenced in York County Court on Tuesday, Oct. 2, to five years of house arrest followed by 10 years of probation, according to court records.
York County Common Pleas Judge Harry M. Ness on April 4 found him guilty but mentally ill of child rape and a number of other felony offenses, including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child less than 13 and statutory sexual assault.
"I think Judge Ness really weighed this case carefully," defense attorney Seamus Dubbs said. "He said it was one of the most difficult cases he's had to review during his time on the bench."
Hall identifies as a man but has not completed his transition, Dubbs confirmed.
Ness imposed house arrest after considering Hall's mental-health issues and gender identity as well as a report from a psychiatrist who expressed concern about Hall being imprisoned, according to the attorney.
"I think it was the most appropriate resolution all the way around," Dubbs said.
The background: Southern Regional Police arrested Hall at his former Shrewsbury-area home in August 2015.
In June 2015, a woman who was 21 at the time complained to police that Hall sexually abused her between 2007 and 2012, starting when she was 12 years old, court documents state.
Hall is 10 years her senior, police said.
The relationship between Hall and the girl started as friendly, and the two regularly spent time together in Hall's basement bedroom.
As the year progressed, they developed a physical and romantic relationship, according to court documents.
Throughout the relationship, the two engaged in sexual contact every day, documents state.
The girl ended the relationship in 2010, when she was 15, and has since distanced herself from Hall, police have said.
