York City Police investigating four shootings
York City Police are still investigating four shootings that happened over the period of three days.
One man was shot Tuesday, Sept. 11, two people were shot Monday, Sept. 10, and a boy was shot Sunday, Sept. 9.
Sgt. Bill Wentz, who supervises the detective bureau, said Thursday, Sept. 13, that no arrests have been made in the shootings. Additionally, he said he has not seen any connection between the four shooting incidents.
Tuesday: Police have said NaShawn Handy, 18, was shot at 8:13 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of East King Street.
Wentz said investigators believe there were two shooters, and it is looking as though Handy was targeted.
He was taken to Memorial Hospital by a private vehicle and was last listed in stable condition, according to police.
Wentz said detectives are following up on some leads.
Monday: Police have said Patrick Weaver, 34, was shot in the arm shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 1100 block of East King Street. He was taken to York Hospital by ambulance and was last listed in stable condition, according to police.
Wentz said detectives aren't sure if he or someone else in the residence was the intended target.
"When he opened the door, they shot him," he said. The sergeant said five people live there.
Wentz said they believe there was one shooter in this instance. He said Weaver was shot in the upper arm, and the bullet went through his arm and into his upper torso.
A 17-year-old was shot on Tuesday as well. Police said that the teen was shot in the 600 block of Salem Avenue about 11:50 p.m. He was shot in the foot, the release states.
He was taken to York Hospital for treatment and released.
Wentz said the teen was walking down the street and went through a breezeway, and he was fired upon. The teen was struck in the foot as he was getting away.
Wentz said investigators aren't sure if there were multiple shooters. He also said it is not clear if the teen was targeted.
Sunday: A 12-year-old boy was shot Sunday in the 100 block of Stevens Avenue at about 10:15 p.m., according to police.
Initially authorities said the boy was 13, but Wentz said on Thursday that the boy is actually 12.
The sergeant said the boy and his mother were walking to a corner store when the boy was shot.
“We don’t believe he was intended target," he said.
Wentz said the boy was taken to York Hospital and then transferred to Hershey Medical Center. Wentz said the boy was still there as of Wednesday.
The sergeant said officers aren't sure who was the intended target. It was raining the night of the shooting, which he said has made it difficult for collecting evidence.
