Coroner identifies man killed in police-involved shooting at Route 30 motel

An officer shot and killed a retail theft suspect at the Motel 6 on Arsenal Road on Saturday night after the man opened fire on police, according to a state police news release.

The man was identified as Logan Montgomery, 29, of no fixed address, according to the York County Coroner's Office.

The incident happened at 8:36 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the hotel at 125 Arsenal Road, the release states.

A West Manchester Township officer and a Northern York Regional officer went to the hotel after learning the suspect in a retail theft from earlier in the day was staying there, state police said.

The officers encountered Montgomery in a hallway, where he pulled a gun and fired it, according to the release.

The West Manchester officer returned fire and struck Montgomery, state police said.

Montgomery was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:24 p.m., according to the York County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy has been scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Lehigh Valley Hospital

No one else was injured, state police said.

The officers were not identified in the state police report.

The York County District Attorney’s Office requested state police investigate the incident, according to the release.
