A West York man who police said choked his child's mother until she passed out is now a wanted fugitive.

Zebulun Emir Sweeney, 30, threw water on the woman to revive her after she lost consciousness and later told her, "You'll learn not to talk to me like that," according to charging documents.

Sweeney and the 29-year-old Spring Grove-area woman are no longer romantically involved, police said, but they have a child together, and she told officers she often drives him places.

According to charging documents filed by West York Police, the woman picked up Sweeney from his workplace and drove him to his home in the 1100 block of West Princess Street the afternoon of June 18.

Once there, they started to argue about the woman's new boyfriend, police said.

That's when Sweeney put one or both hands around her throat until she passed out, charging documents allege.

When the woman woke up, Sweeney was throwing water on her, police said, and that's when he allegedly told her she'd learn not to talk to him "like that."

West York Police Chief Matt Millsaps said officers gave the woman information on how to obtain a protection from abuse order, as well as a rights-and-services informational packet that's given to all victims of violent crime.

Police said the woman still had red marks around her neck and her clothing was still wet when they spoke with her about the alleged attack.

No-show: Sweeney agreed to meet with police on June 19 at the station, but he failed to show up there, documents state.

Officers repeatedly — and unsuccessfully — tried to make contact with Sweeney.

"Due to Sweeney not cooperating with police, failing to appear, and obviously avoiding police contact I am requesting a warrant be issued for his arrest," Officer Victoria Walton wrote in charging documents.

Once captured, he will be arraigned on the felony charges of aggravated assault and strangulation, as well as the lesser charges of simple assault and harassment, according to court documents.

Anyone with information about Sweeney's whereabouts can call West York Police at 717-854-1975, or call 911.
