A Lower Windsor Township man died early Saturday at York Hospital after he was shot at a Hellam Township bar, police said.

Officers dispatched Saturday, July 21, to the Red Rose Restaurant & Lounge, 5370 Lincoln Highway, for a reported shooting found 25-year-old Chad Merrill with a single wound to the chest, Hellam Township Police said in a news release.

He was transported to York Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m., according to the York County Coroner’s Office.

Witness interviews and surveillance video from the bar led police to identify the suspect as James Saylor, 24, of Lower Windsor Township, police said.

Saylor was arrested without incident, and he faces a charge of criminal homicide, according to police.

Hellam police said they were assisted by officers from York Area Regional, Springettsbury Township and Lower Windsor Township.

The investigation is continuing, police said.

An autopsy is scheduled for 8 a.m. Monday, July 23, according to the coroner’s office.
