Police: Woman bit York City cop

A woman remained in York County Prison Sunday, July 15, after police said she bit an officer during her arrest in York City.

York City Police say Carmen Vega was resisting arrest when she bit officer Justin Main's right hand with enough force that it left a mark.

Vega, 37, whose address was not provided, is charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

Alleged assault: Main spotted Vega walking in the 600 block of West Princess Street at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, according to court documents.

Main wrote in charging documents that Vega had a bench warrant for failing to appear for a preliminary hearing, and he approached to her to take her into custody.

She pulled away, police said, and moved her hands as if she was reaching into her bra area.

Main grabbed her wrist from behind and tried getting her to the ground so it would be easier to handcuff her, but she pulled her arms inward, reached down with her mouth, and bit his right hand, officials said.

She bit him with enough force that it left a mark on his wrist, charging documents said.

Main wrote in court documents that he was able to get her arms controlled, and he handcuffed her and took her to to the county's central booking unit.

She was arraigned there and sent to York County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail. She does not have an attorney listed.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 25 at District Judge Joel Toluba's office.
