A York City man threw a "solid ball" at a car, shattering its window while two adults and a child sat inside while on Interstate 83 late last week, according to officials.

Kirkland, of the 900 block of East Philadelphia Street, is charged with propelling a missile into occupied vehicles, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief.

Threw ball: According to charging documents filed by Trooper Jonathan Lear, a man was driving on southbound I-83 about 7 a.m. Friday, July 6, when he was cut off by Kirkland from an on ramp.

The two drove to the area of Exit 15, York Township, when the man heard an impact to the rear of his vehicle, police said.

The man pulled over on the off ramp to the business loop of I-83 northbound, and he heard another impact and saw his rear window was shattered, court documents state.

Kirkland then drove by and yelled "Yeah, yeah, yeah," and the man followed him and took down his license plate number, officials said.

The driver, his wife and a small child were in the car at the time, court documents state.

It wasn't until Sunday, July 8, that police were able to talk to Kirkland, according to police. While speaking to authorities, Kirkland confirmed he cut off a car on the interstate as he was leaving work, documents state.

Police say Kirkland watched the victim throw coffee from the sunroof, and that he followed the vehicle and threw a "solid ball" from his car to the rear of the victim's car.

Kirkland denied throwing two objects and only admitted to throwing one, charging documents state.

Kirkland was taken to the county's central booking unit for arraignment that night. He remains in York County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail. He does not have an attorney listed.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 10 at District Judge Lindy Lane Sweeney's office.
