Escape: Hickmond was being taken to York County Prison after his preliminary hearing at District Judge Linda Williams' office on May 8 when he escaped, charging documents state.

According to Springettsbury Township Police, around 3 p.m. he stood up from his seat in the van and pushed his body through the open window, all while the van was traveling 30 mph.

Hickmond landed on the street and was able to free his left foot from his leg shackles, officials said. He ran south into the parking lot of Fiesta Mexico, at 2818 E. Market St., documents state.

Police say a man going into the parking lot spotted Hickmond as Hickmond was trying to ride a bicycle. Hickmond crashed the bike in the parking lot and was attempting to stand, according to charging documents.

The constable then pulled into the parking lot, exited the van and ran to Hickmond, police said. The constable was struggling with Hickmond, and the man asked if the constable needed help, officials said.

The constable said yes, and the man restrained Hickmond's feet while the constable placed the shackle back on Hickmond's leg, according to charging documents.

At the time of Hickmond's alleged escape, he was being held on robbery charges. Online court documents state that Hickmond had just had a preliminary hearing about an hour before the alleged escape.

In early April, York City Police charged Hickmond with robbery of a motor vehicle and burglary. He is currently in York County Prison on those charges in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Charges for Hickmond's alleged escape were filed Monday, May 21. He is scheduled for formal arraignment on June 29..
