Police: Glen Rock fight escalates to involve handgun and crossbow
A fight in Glen Rock on Saturday night escalated to involve a handgun and a crossbow, according to Southern Regional Police.
The incident happened about 9 p.m. Saturday, May 19, in the 100 block of Hanover Street, where callers had reported two men shouting obscenities and threats at each other, police stated in a news release.
Upon arrival, the responding officer saw a man later identified as Glen Phillip Yerkes standing on his front porch pointing a crossbow at people across the street, according to the release.
The officer ordered him to drop the weapon, and Yerkes lowered it and ran inside his house, police said. A perimeter was set up around Yerkes’ house, and he was taken into custody, the release states.
Police said Yerkes and two others had been drinking at a nearby house when he struck a woman, prompting a fight between Yerkes and Daniel Wayne Banaszak.
Banaszak allegedly retrieved a loaded handgun and pointed it at Yerkes, who fled to his residence and retrieved the crossbow, police said.
Both men were arrested and taken to central booking, according to the release.
The gun was seized by responding officers, and the crossbow was later recovered after a search warrant was served at Yerkes’ residence, police said.
Yerkes, 56, of Hanover Street in Glen Rock, faces charges including two counts of simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment, according to police.
Banaszak, 51, also of Hanover Street in Glen Rock, faces charges including simple assault, making terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and two counts of harassment, the release states.
