Police: Man shot in head on York City street
A man was shot in the head during a daytime shooting in York City on Tuesday morning, according to police.
Just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, York City Police were called to the 400 block of Park Street for a report of a man shot.
Philip Given, chief of staff to York City Mayor Michael Helfrich, issued a news release about 30 minutes after the shooting, which he said happened at the intersection of Park Street and Park Place.
Walter Jenkins, 43, of York City, was shot once in the head, according to the news release.
Arriving officers rendered aid to Jenkins, who was then taken to York Hospital, the release states.
He is in critical condition, according to the release.
"This was not a random act of violence, and we believe the victim was targeted," Given wrote in the news release.
At the scene Tuesday morning, officers collected multiple shell casings and other evidence.
About nine York City police cruisers responded, and Interim York City Police Chief Troy Bankert arrived there shortly before 11 a.m.
The intersection of Park Place and Park Street was blocked off while officers investigated.
Prior shooting: Tuesday's shooting was the fifth in York City in less than two weeks, and it was the second one in less than two days.
Kenderrick Carter, of York City, was shot in the leg about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. April 22, in the 300 block of Lindberg Avenue, police said.
The 26-year-old was taken to York Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition as of Monday, April 23, according to Lt. Gene Fells.
Like Jenkins, Carter was targeted, officials said.
