A Dover Township man is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl, according to police.

Northern York County Regional Police say Angel Javier Mercado, 49, sexually assaulted the girl over a period of 3½ years.

Mercado is charged with rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, indecent assault and corruption of minors.

Allegations: The victim spoke with authorities in early February, according to court documents. 

Police said she told invetigators the assaults took place in two Dover Township residences.

Mercado allegedly raped the girl and also made her touch his genitals, according to court documents. The victim, police said, was not random.

Charges for Mercado were filed Monday, March 19, and he was arraigned on the charges that afternoon. He remains in York County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

He does not have an attorney listed.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 24 at District Judge David Eshbach's office.
