A Hopewell Township man is accused of causing injuries to a 2-year-old while he watched the child late last month, according to state police.

State police say Matthew Paul Icenrode was asked to watch the boy and afterward the toddler was returned with bruises, burns and a skull fracture.

Icenrode, of the 15000 block of Maddox Road, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and endangering the welfare of children.

Allegations:  According to court documents, the victim's mother left the child in Icenrode's care when she went to bingo on Feb. 28. He watched the boy at her Peach Bottom Township home, officials said.

When she came home, Icenrode told her the child was sleeping in his room, police said. Overnight the boy vomited in his crib, and bruises were seen on his face, court documents state.

The injuries became worse over the next few days, and the boy continued vomiting, police said. The child's mother took him to the hospital on March 4, officials said.

Police spoke to two other people who saw the child before Feb. 28, and they said the child did not have those injuries before that day, court documents state.

While speaking to officials Wednesday, March 7, Icenrode said the victim's mother asked him to watch the child that day, and he told her he was playing "World of Warcraft" that day, according to police. He eventually agreed to watch the child, court documents state.

He told police the victim was eating Doritos, and when Icenrode took the Doritos from him, he "fussed," police said.

It is not clear what police believe Icenrode did to the victim because court documents do not provide any additional information. Messages left for a state police spokesman requesting additional information were not returned.

Charges for Icenrode were filed March 7, and he was arraigned on the charges that day. He remains in York County Prison in lieu of $125,000 bail. He does not have an attorney listed.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 4 at District Judge Laura Manifold's office.
