Police: Dover Twp. hardware store employee stops robbery

A Harrisburg man didn't make it far with drills stolen from a Dover Township hardware store, according to officials.

Northern York County Regional Police say Brandon Matthew Figueroa, 30, stole drills from the Spangler's Ace Hardware on Feb. 13, but he was stopped by an employee before he could take off with them.

Figueroa, of the 900 block of Samoset Drive, Harrisburg, faces charges of robbery, retail theft and receiving stolen property.

Robbery: According to police, Figueroa went to the hardware store at 4076 Carlisle Road about 11 a.m.

He went to the rear of the store, where the Dewalt drills are, and he grabbed two drills valued at $199, court documents state.

Figueroa then left the store and headed toward a GMC Arcadia, which was driven by an unidentified woman who was waiting for him, court documents state. An employee then followed him.

Figueroa got in the car and yelled "Go! Go! Go!" according to officials. 

The employee opened the rear door of the car and grabbed the merchandise, but Figueroa reached back and began fighting with the employee, charging documents state.

The employee was able to get the drills out of Figueroa's hands and bring them back to the store, officials said. Police say the two then fled north on Carlisle Road.

Figueroa successfully stole drills from the store  Jan. 30, and the staff was familiar with him, according to police.

Northern York County Regional Police said Figueroa was taken into custody in the Harrisburg area Friday, Feb. 16.

Figueroa is also charged with retail theft by West Shore Regional Police in Cumberland County. He remains in Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.

He had not yet been arraigned on his York County charges as of Monday, Feb. 19.
