A York City man escaped life-threatening injury when he was shot on New Year's Eve, police said.

Daviay Green, 20, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, according to York City Police Lt. Matt Leitzel, who supervises the city detective bureau.

Officers were called to York Hospital's emergency department for a reported shooting and found Green being treated there, the lieutenant said.

Green told officers he was driving through the 100 block of West Maple Street about 10:10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, when he heard gunfire, according to Leitzel.

Green told officers he was struck in the leg while driving, Leitzel said.

His injury isn't believed to be life-threatening, according to the lieutenant, who said the investigation continues.
